Over the past 100 years, we have amassed one of Canada's
most distinguished collections of contemporary representational
paintings – more than 4,000 works in all. Each year,
Royal Bank of Canada sponsors the New Canadian Painting
Competition, established in 1999 to recognize Canadian visual
artists in the early stages of their careers. In 2003 it
attracted more than 1,500 pieces of art from 600 artists
across the country.
Furthermore, we are supporters of amateur sport at the community
and national level. In particular, we are Canada’s longest-standing
supporter of Olympic athletes, having sponsored the Canadian
Olympic Committee since 1947, and the Canadian Special Olympics
since 1968.
